Title: Function Generator IC?
Post by: smallbearelec on January 14, 2004, 04:27:40 PM
Customer asked if I would carry the XR2206. I can do so, but would it be popular for LFOs and such?

I looked at the datasheet and it looks cool to me.  I'd certainly be interested in getting a few and try em out (I've been meaning to build a versatile DIY f-gen). About how much would they run?

Thanks,
Brad

It's a real nice IC, it gives you sine, triangle and square wave output. 0,01Hz to 0,5Mhz range.

Steve, how about the TLC2262 opamp for the GT-2, I think there are a lot of GT-2 builders who like this original IC.

Bye,

Joep

PS I like your new site and I received my lastest order last week. Thanks!

Uses a lot of current!
As a function generator, it certainly beats the ICL8038, though.

That would be great.

A low parts count lfo for a tremolo or phaser with selectable square, sine or triangle waveform!

It could also be used to select different carrier waveforms for a ring mod.

I bought a cheap, battery operated portable function generator and took a peek inside...
an XR2206 surrounded by a handful of parts.
It would make for a versatile DIY function generator.

The XR2206 is kinda hard to find.

Let us know, Steve.

Thanks,
J.
Title: XR2206 Will Be Available

I will order this one tomorrow. Retail will be about four bucks in small quantities. I would REALLY love to be able to stock the MAX038CPP, but it is still selling for $23.00 and change. Some day...

Yes I second that!

I'd much rather get a good price on the 8038, but either would be great :)

The IC section of this circuit should theoretically work as a func-gen:

(Circuit needs help, I would skip the MOSFETs and use something more like the EA tremolo, etc.)

Requires a little support circuitry but it's not too bad...need to test it out some more, maybe I can squeeze a couple extra waveforms in there since there are some leftover inverters.

Just thought I'd throw it out there since 4049's are so cheap.

My only gripe about Function chips is that they require 10v... any that don't?

The MAX8038 will run on 5v but its expenssive.

Many years ago I designed a vibe and a trem that could use either the XR8038 or XR2206 for the LFO. You do need to take of signal conditioning issues when using the outputs to drive something but once you get that settle they sound great.

I recommend you read the spec sheets CLOSELY and be aware of its limitations. The sheets are very clear about what the IC can do.
