Post by: jimbob on January 18, 2004, 10:35:24 PM
Is mpf102 a jfet? I searched and couldnt find answer. Im building an Ea tremolo and only have a 2n5457.. I thought i read somewhere where a mpf102 will work. Any ideas?

No dumb questions... only dumb people who ASK questions!!
(just kidding!)

Yes, an MPF102 is a JFET..  a not-so-great replacement for a J201 or a 2n5457.. easily grabbed at radio shack.

Though less often used and praised for gain stages than are the 2N5457 and J201, the MPF102 is often used in applications where it is used as a voltage-controlled resistor (phasers, noise gates, tremoloes).  The 2N5457 is also used in such applications.  As always, verify the pinout, although I believe they are identical.

Well i can hear sound through it at a little reduced level but no tremolo effect. Any ideas?
