Anybody could help me? I need a freeware software to record soundclips. I tried to record a soundclip in the Windows audio recorder, but I got a really low volume soundclip.

The level has nothing to do with the program you use, it can only record what is there.
Yes, you nedd to set the input to mic or bring your signal up to line level. That should do it.
You can run into a mixer, then go into the line in jacks.

use ebay there buddy.. and get yourself a zoom 9000 the little flying wedge. one of the most useful speaker sims i have come across that also has nice reverb with it.. i mean shoot if you are going to add reverb anyway wouldn't it be nice to go ahead and have on thing to do both.
Thanks. I use the mic input. I don't have a preamp or speaker sim. The signal is loud enought when I record the clip, but when I play it, the volume is very low.
You checked and adjusted both your input (recording) level and your output (playback) level in the Windows mixer, right?

Something to try: In thw windows mixer, on menu: Options>Properties there is a button. It is "Adjust volume for Recording or Playback" This should allow you to increase the volume the computer accepts from the Mic/line in port.

:? I have had it difficult to adjust input level just right. I use different programs, and my kids fiddle with my computer and maybe differetn programs adjust levels automatically. Maybe I have too many programs in my computers, software VU meter does not always work with all programs. Maybe these consumer level cards are made purposely like this to make analog audio copying more difficult... Or maybe a recording circuit with external VU meter and limiter might help.
Many audio editor programs have "normalize" function, that scans the level of file and adjusts it to max before clipping.

In the sound recorder you can also set the sampling resolution. Try 92kbps mono, I use it and it's fine both volume and clarity are OK. Space isn't really an issue for me but I don't know what it's like with your site hosting. Adjust your resolutions untill you are happy. Also, try a preamp between your guitar and soundcard if there's not enough volume ;)
O hang on I just read you don't have a preamp ;) Try an LPB-2, that'll work fine aswell.
I had a software once that have a digital preamp. I will search for this again. I took a look in the record volume, it's all in max.

I think the problem is my pc. It is slow now, and need to reinstall and configurate some things. Well, time for format it :P.

Yes... I use my self built opamp booster for that. Minibooster should be good for that too. Actually most OD/dist/fuzz -pedals should be able to drive line inputs just fine. You might need to adjust the output volume to bit higher than you usually use for feeding your guitar amp.
If you can, use the line input on your soundcard. The mic input has a mic pre-amp and usually those are very noisy etc. (I mean mic pre-amps in in soundcards, not generally. :D)
Remember that in most soundcards there is a separate controls for recording level and what goes to speakers. (That was said allready in this thread but I wanted to say that again.)

Oh... About boosting the level after recording it to a computer. Avoid it if you can. It reduces sound quality.
An LPB will drive a line input fine. Works for me :)

Formatting a PC is about the best thing you can do if it's acting strangely. Basically if you don't want a computer to screw up the best thing to do is leave it off ;)
