I was wanting to put a switch for my tubescreamer to switch from the 1n914s for clipping to Led's. Not sure how to do this. I suppose i could just do as i did before and manually take the diodes out and replace w leds..Too much work though.
1. What kind of switch would i use?
2. How would i do this.
I figured it would be a spst or spdt. (toggle is fine) What if i want 3 diff choices of combinations?
Again, How to connect?
If you just want to switch between two combinations (say back-to-back Ge's and back-to-back Si's) you can use a spst switch. Wire it so the diodes with the highest voltage drop are always in the circuit, then use the switch to add the others in parallel.
If you want three choices use a spdt centre-off switch. In the middle (off) position will be the diodes with the highest voltage drop, the other two positions switch two other sets of diodes in parallel. You could have, for instance, LED's in the centre, Si's on one side and Ge's on the other side. This should work for a number of combinations, just made sure the diodes that get switched in parallel with the fixed diodes have equal or lower voltage drops to the fixed ones.
