I am frustrated with the sounds I am getting with this pedal...I am not sure if I should modify it...or sell it. got any ideas.

Not sure what sounds you had in mind when you got it, but try turning the boost all the way down ( I notice this is the way it is pictured at the Voodoo Labs site) and running it before another fuzz or OD. This brings out the octave effect more.
