Instead of using the transformer can I just use an 18V plug pack and attach it directly to a 15V regulator?

Absolutely. :D

You're going to want to have at least 3 volts above that 15 for the regulator to remain stable. If you don't have that much spare voltage and your regulator is not stable, try using an LDO or Low Drop-Out regulator instead of the 7815. There are many of them these days and they only need a volt or less more than the output voltage to remain stable.

Good luck,

Tim,

If you're using a DC power pack, bypass the rectifier.  Just leave out the diodes and connect directly to the ground and power rail to the regulator.  Maybe I should post a little diagram of that kind of power connection.

That would be helpful. I've got this one on my list of future builds.

Thanks JD.

Title: Error on schematic?
Post by: saxtim on January 24, 2004, 05:02:21 PM
JD - I think there is an error on the Electric Mistress schematic.  IC5 - There are 9 connections to it (and only 8 pins!).  On the bottom side, you've got pins 4 and 1 connected together and then connecting to D5, then a 3rd (unlabeled) wire connected to ground.  From looking at another schematic on the web I think that pins 1 and 4 should be connected together, and then to ground, not to D5.  Is that right?

good catch Tim,  I'll put that on my list of fixes to do.
