Title: Ever try these boxes?
Post by: Triffid on January 24, 2004, 01:42:57 AM
I was scoping around for some good boxes and found these.  I was wondering if anyone has tried them or has any advice about them.   I was looking at the second box (...BR).  They are super cheap when you purchase at least 10.

You must be looking at the wrong one, Brian. The 03-125BR is what we call the Jameco enclosure. You've probably seen guts shots of boxes with ridges inside? Not as sexy as Hammonds, but cheap and easy to pack circuits into.

The ones that are just a bit taler, wider and longer than a 1590B are very nice.  I've built a few things in them and the extra space in each direction can make a bigger difference than you'd think in terms of fitting in pots and toggles immediately above the board, and in terms of finding room for a pair of batteries in bipolar-powered projects or simply finding room for the battery/jacks/switch when the board is a little bigger than you really wanted.  As well, the slots along the inside, though inconvenient for mounting phone jacks, are nice for dividing up a complex circuit into a couple of sub-boards and using horizontal and vertical board mounting to fit everything in there.

i just bought ten of them... i like to turn them sideways, and put two effects in one box.. eg, muff fuzz x2... with two stomp switches.. this is my current project!

People seem to like the "1580B equivalents".  I've yet to try them out.
