Title: OT.. lowing current or voltage
Post by: b_rogers on January 27, 2004, 10:33:02 PM
ok..i have a "hot wire" electrified fence to contain my dogs...it is WAY too powerful. can i lower the zap by using a resistor? it has a hot terminal and a ground. resistor off of "hot" wire to ground? it puts off AC voltage i think. i can go check if any of you have any suggestions...

do your dogs use it to power their stompboxes?

what list is this?

you would need to make sure that the amperage doesn't smoke the resistor as long as you              get the correct value you should be fine

What are you making, a bow-wow pedal? a Snarling Dog clone?
Seriously though, a series resistor will give you a voltage divider (with the dog as the second leg). Go for it. I'd start at 470K and work my way down.
Watch out for arcing over the resistor, mayvbe a chain of five 100K would be better.
Actually, this still gives the dog the full volt at first, but limiting the current must limit the effect.
