Title: A/B/Y momentary quasi phrase sampler
Post by: onboard on January 29, 2004, 04:29:50 PM
Weird!!!!!!!!!!!!!  First thing that came to mind today was remebering how I wanted to jerry-rig something to so I could play a dry signal on top of a lingering delay signal. Kind of a ghetto phrase sampler.

Imagine getting on the forum and finding that very thing at the top of the list, albeit with a pan rather than switching. Blend A/B insted of Switch A/B box?? (http://diystompboxes.com/sboxforum/viewtopic.php?t=18285)
Anyway, would this switching rig work? The DPST can feed or bypass the delay, and the SPST off-(on) would feed the signal to the delay for snagging a quick phrase without stomping twice. So two options, either delay on or off, or momentary.

Or do I have it all backwards, and it should go signal splitter -> one line into delay, other line past delay -> switching -> signal mix?

Well those switches do the same thing. They feed the delay back. Which causes endless repeats etc. So if you had a delay that did long samples in the first place, you wouldn't need this gizmo. Or am I confuzzled? never mind :P

You're right. In my confuzzledness, I was oblivious to the continuous feedback loops created.

So I guess that's not the way to do it, get dry signal on top of lingering delay signal, that is. Have to route the signal without feeding back to the delay. It's got to be so simple that I'm overlooking the obvious...

Never mind mate :P Sometimes it stares you in the face so hard you don't see it  ;)

What if you just got rid of S1 (eliminate the feedback loop), but kept S2 as it is? Wouldn't that get you where you want to be? Maybe try to find a momentary SPDT stompswitch, so your signal would only go to the delay when you stomp on it. When you lift your foot up, you could play on top of the repeats that would still be coming out of the delay.

Or, I dunno, maybe I'm coundfizzled, too.

I think ur right moosapotamus. Thing is, I want the option of turning the delay "on" straight up as well. Hence, either switch through the delay with S2, or leave the stomp off and use S1 (momentary) to grab phrases. Meanwhile, the actual delay pedal is always on, of course. Am I thinking about that right?

you could have a momentary 'off' switch which takes the delay out of the line so you could add a phrase...

Hmmm...

I think you might need one of the two switches to be a DPDT (or a 3PDT if you want a status LED - could even be a bi-color LED), and the other a momentary SPDT... maybe?

So, when you stomp on the DPDT it bypasses the delay but the momentary switch will allow you to intermittently go through the delay. Then, when you stomp on the 3PDT it switches so that you are only going through the delay but the momentary switch will now allow you to intermittantly bypass the delay. Is that what you want to do?
