Title: lazertran inkjet - any experience?
Post by: saxtim on January 31, 2004, 07:31:31 PM
I'm thinking about getting some lazertran inkjet paper, but I wanted to see if anyone else had experience with this. Reading previous posts, lots of people are using the Dark Tshirt transfer method, but i'd like to be able to transfer decals on to an already painted box.

The inkjet paper suits me because its easier to access an inkjet printer.

What I'm wondering is can you apply the transfer and let it stick itself without doing all the baking?  The website mentions that this is possible on some surfaces, but of course wont be as durable.  I figured though, if it varnished and then covered with a urethane top coat it should be durable.

Another though that crossed my mind is whether or not the line where the paper meets the box will be visible or not if you dont bake it on.  I'm assuming when you melt the decal on you also merge the borders of the paper with the box very effectively - I'm not sure the same would be true of just using the adhesive.

I had seen one website where someone had succesfully baked decals on to enamel painted surfaces - though they said it was a bit tricky and you had to be careful of the paint bubbling.

So has anyone had any experiences?
