Title: What are the smallest and simplest circuits?
Post by: zenpeace69 on January 31, 2004, 11:21:53 PM
I am thinking of making some really tiny effects boxes that can be turned on or off with a mini toggle and can be stuffed into a very small hammond box. They won't be stomped on, they don't have to be TB, they don't need to even have an LED necessarily...

What are the smallest and simplest circuits I could use?

I am looking to make tiny boxes that I can use in a feedback loop pedal.  I am looking to go as nano as possible so that I can fit three of them on my board without taking up too much room.

Any links?  Any schems?  Anything you can direct me to would be appreciated.

thanks

I am noob.  = )

Both the Electra Distortion and the EH LPB circuits are very elemental and the  Electra was originally designed as an *in-guitar* module. Both the Fuzz Face and the Rangemaster are classic low-part count simple circuits. There are some fans of simple 386 based circuits here who I imagine will offer some suggestions.

hey zen nice to see you over here on the dark side ....

i could get you a schematic for a single sage fet booster i made the other day.  i think it has 2 caps, 3 resistors, 1 fet,  and 2 pots.  easy build, and for your use you might even make it so you can use an expression pedal to control the gain, or the bias, or imnput impedance or someething cool like that.

You can make some really good single transistor stage fuzzes that sound like something 10x bigger. Im finalyzing a design for a simple 1 FET fuzz/booster circuit @ the mo, so ill get it on here soon!

P.s
Brian,
Could I see that schematic?  :)

The Bazz Fuss is a very small circuit.  I've housed one with TE's LoFoMoFo, which is also smallish (see runoffgroove.com).  Joe's OD/Easydrive is another very small but good one (generalguitargadgets.com, I think).

I built an LPB-1 on a piece of per that was 5 holes by 9. That's small

Aron's 386 based Smash Drive is pretty low parts count IIRC...If you want something a bit more tonebending than a booster.

I'll enthusiastically echo Brett's suggestion: Christian's Bazz Fuss.  As I've said before, I challenge anyone to produce a better fuzz with so few components.  Everyone should try one, especially beginners.

You can try the Bazz Fuss or my GES Double Jam.
