Title: Why, Whynot of Tube FF?
Post by: petemoore on February 02, 2004, 09:04:50 PM
Surely not a new theory, I haven't heard why these 'arent' yet though.
Is it possible to create a feedback loop amp ckt [like Fuzz Face] using tubes?

I tried this with JFETs once, but the gain was real low. A tube version should work? (Anyone know of an especially high-gain JFET? 100 or more? Most are around 10-20.)

Title: Darlington Fet?????

Hi Pete & Joe,

It certainly seems possible to build a fuzz face type circuit using tubes. It could sound great. Or possibly build a hybrid circuit with a tube replacing Q2.

What about configuring two fets in a darlington configuration.

Or

Maximizing the gain of the stages using a constant current source.

Or creating a Hybrid circuit. I expect the majority of the character of the sound is due to the clipping of the 2nd transistor. So one could possibly use a higher gain transistor for the 1st stage using a mosfet or high gain bipolar and blasting the jfet for some nice sounding clipping.
