Title: 16-segment LED displays
Post by: smoguzbenjamin on February 04, 2004, 12:30:03 PM
Heya

I have here an anonymous 16-segment LED that displays 2 numbers and one decimal. That totals 16 LED lights, right? The problem is, the thing has only 16 pins. I can just about make out an 'E' printed on the side, but other than that, I have no idea what which pin does. Does anyone have an idea of how to wire this thing up? :?

Um..isn't that a 15-segment display with common ground?
Lessee... with all LEDs on one single number displays 8.
that's 7 segments, right? So two numbers plus dot would be 15.
Hook up a DMM on diode test and try to figure out what ground is - the other pins don't conduct to each other, just to ground. Then carefully hook up either a battery or your DMM if it has enough juice to figure out which pin lights which LED.
It *could* be possible it has its own controller, but then a regular 8 bits would be more than enough, not 16.

It has two decimal points. This is a serious pain in the butt.
