Title: OT: Home page up
Post by: Gringo on February 06, 2004, 07:24:26 AM
Well, i've been doing some stuff the last months, but i didn't want to add another "built it, sounds good" post for each build. As i got a webcam to try from a friend, i used it to take some pics, which led to the idea of a webpage:

http://webs.advance.com.ar/arch1234/Pablo/Index.htm

Very simple, nothing fancy here, i'm more of a java programmer so forgive my lack of aesthetic/html knowledge

I think i should title it 'Building guitar fxs the "Hard Way"', as a homage to Jon Tirone's home page(http://members.fortunecity.com/jtfish/index.html). This guy showed me things could be done just great without tools or money, so here i am now, trying to do something to help others realize the same thing.

Hope you like it.

Please let me know of any problem with it.

Nice! And an inspiration to anyone on a budget. :D

When I started out, I was using the top of an old "entertainment unit" for a bench, about a 18" x 18" square. Not much room, not much $$, but I still had a lot of fun.

Thank you guys, just wanted to say that without this forum, i couldn't have done all that stuff (and make it work).

Miguel, long time ago i found a chunk of a very thick telephone line (at least 50 pairs), i have thin wire to last a lifetime, plenty of different color codes too :D (it's the wire i used in the point to point stuff).

Have fun!

I like the PCB drill. I could build one of those, it's not a bad idea. 8)

I'm glad you liked it, as it was my fist attempt at "web design"

If i find a place to put bigger files i'll upload sound samples (gotta record them first), the .sch and .pcb (i use ExpressPcb) i made for those projects and other small stuff.

I guess i'll rearrange the site in a more orderly fashion and add some useful info on top of the blurry pics and build comments when i can.

By the way, Paul, your page was one of the first i found when i started and it blew me away, that huge list of distortion boxes just made me feel at home :D

I corrected some links, added a contact mail and got a nicer/easier-to-recall url:

http://gring0.cjb.net

A cache reset might be needed to see the changes if you just visited the site. The old url is still valid, though.

My kinda guy, I "Recycle" alot of components, due to the fact ppl give me tons of stuff they don't want anymore (broken stereos, vcr's tv's etc). You'd be surprised at some of the gems you find in some of these things! Why go out and by LED's when you can find TONS of them in stuff made in the late 80's and early 90's? =P

Oh well, cjb.net just went down without a warning, so here's the new url:

http://gringo.webhop.net

I added a links page, quite thoroughful IMHO, check it out ;)

I'm afraid the webmaster's mail doesn't work anymore too, i'll change it asap.

Great Pics...not too proud to beg!!!
Just shows what can be done with a ton of determination and not alot else!!!
I used to paste schematics on hardback book covers...tried a Tweek-O on perf [a first perf proj. that didn't work] and went Back to cardboard for a short time...lol...ranting about the perils of perf for a minute...
See I was sitting here with a Digital Processor [RP100], then I found these websites...and an article "deadbug prototyping"...well I had the soldering Iron [I sezz] and some wire too...even had some old pots around...I figured what the heck...and MADE the first trip to Electronics warehouse ...  after my initial forum reads began...for the transistors...
The rest is history !!!

You are right ben, the cjb.net link it works now. I guess you can use any (or both)...

I need to borrough a webcam to add my last projects, which are turning out better than the first ones.

Also, i tried the transfer method of using transparencies (plastic sheats used in retroprojectors [pre-powerpoint era] ). I just printed in a regular paper sheet, went to a photocopy shop, and for a measly u$s 0.3, i could make a (almost) perfect transfer with some careful ironing.

Oh boy, GT-2 here i come...(if i can get the rotary switchs)

Hope you like 'em!
