I have this 16w KUSTOM practice amp, and it's a piece of crap. In more than one way, mind you. Anyway, My bassist had broken the in-amp distortion somehow (broken pot turned out to be the problem). I replaced it, and swapped out a 4558 for a 4559 (i dunno why, just on a whim...) and added a switch to go from assymetrical diode based clipping to symmetrical. All I really notice is a volume and frequency difference. With assym, its louder and has more highs. Other than that, I electrocuted myself; herein lies the lesson: Unplug first.
Glad you're still with us!
You could also build a 5W tube amp and use the KUSTOM's chassis/cabinet for it. ;)
Wow, now that sounds like a good idea! Any suggestions? I know I've seen some around here... But maybe a higher wattage?
#1 - Please! Do some reading about the dangers, because if you get shocked by a tube amp, you may not be around to tell us how it sounds.
#2 - ax84.com is a very good reference
I'm sure everyone else will chime in w/ more info.
I agree with eliktronik on both points 100%. :D
http://www.ax84.com/ is the place, and safety first!
Take care,

yea, I know, I won't be plugging the tube amps in before i finish though. Thank for the stuff!
