Title: Nice homemade pedals with cool labels...
Post by: toneless on February 08, 2004, 09:31:51 AM
Hi everybody!
I was searching around for good looking labels for my pedals and i found this site : http://www.pisotones.com/Articulos/Mecanizacion.htm

The thing is that i don't understand a word. Does anybody know how this person made the labeling of the tube screamer?
Very nice looking   It's like silk screen or whatever this is called...
Any other cool ways of labeling our boxes?

Nick

Go to google and select Language tools (http://www.google.com/language_tools?hl=en) paste in the URL you want to translate, select the languages to convert between and off you go.

Which in this case comes out as http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pisotones.com%2FArticulos%2FMecanizacion.htm&langpair=es%7Cen&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&prev=%2Flanguage_tools (http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pisotones.com%2FArticulos%2FMecanizacion.htm&langpair=es%7Cen&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&prev=%2Flanguage_tools)

Excellent link by the way!

Those guys are from spain, and  if I'm not wrong, one of them (Manolodudes maybe?) is a regular on this forum.

Yes, they use silkscreen to apply each design into the boxes. It´s an elaborate process, but once you master it, the results are great.

Also, there's a relatively high introductory price into it. You need a frame with a special fabric where you 'paint' the original design. Then you need special silkscreen ink. And finally, but not necesarily, you need a special tool used to spread the ink over the fabric. I think it's called 'squeeshy' or something like that.

I strongly recomend you go through google's translator to take a look at www.pisotones.com It's a really valuable resource on finishing boxes.

i don't know how those particular pedals were done, but there are instructions for full-box decals on the commonsound kits page, and that might be a good place to start. there's also an arts & crafts goop called Mod-Podge that is made for sticking pictures (magazine pages, etc.) on things. i used some to attach an old calendar picture to a j-bass pickguard, and it has held up pretty well.

Thanks for the info.
I don't quite understand about this Mod-Podge but i'll make a little search around...

I am making up some screens to silk screen some pedals as soon as I get the boxes and I'm trying to get a digital camera to document the process.  I'll post it up here (if I can figure out how to post pic's)

Mod-Podge is some sort of arts and crafts glue that dries clear. You paint some onto the surface of whatever you're decorating, carefully place your picture, and then paint over the whole thing with more Mod-Podge. I think it's formulated specifically to keep the ink from running. When you're done, you can seal the whole thing with spray acrylic (that's what i used) or maybe lacquer.
