I've seen this switching on a voodoo labs superfuzz. At first I thought it was using the H11F3 in some sort of opto compression role (also brought on by one of the knobs being labeled 'Attack'). I have to say I was a bit disappointed to see it was being used for the bypass.
VoodoLabs Sparkle Drive uses same semi-true bypass
arrangement.
