Title: Any Pedal using tubes ??
Post by: New Frontier on February 19, 2004, 02:09:21 AM
Hi people..

I'd like to ask if somebody had tried to build a distortion pedal using tubes, like Ecc83, used on the MEsa Boogie V-twin..
I'd like to built one pedal wich used valves, like this one.. Is it worthy ??
I saw the schematics on:

Has anyone tried it ?

Does anyone know how to use this valves ??

Welcome to the forum! :D

Be cautions about building anything from a Mesa schematic.... they are known for having errors on their schematics.

Aron has a tube pedal around here somewhere, but I can't find the schematic right now. I'm sure somebody will post the link.

There are two basic ways tubes are used in pedals.... high voltage, and low voltage (also called "starved plate"). I like the high voltage sound very much but I don't like the starved plate sound as much. It is still a good distortion, but the two sound very different to me.

You can use tubes almost exactly like you would use JFETs. I love tubes.

Take care,
-Peter

Here's something I did a few years ago:

In some ways I like some of the jfet and bjt stuff better, but tubes are fun.

The Shaka Tube is a cool one. I have to rework the one I previously built, it just isn't quite right somehow.  :(
