i know this comes up all the time. BUT! i want some opinions. i got a modded sd-1 to the keeley specs, and i got a jrc4558 in there but i wanna try some other op amps, which ones do you sugjest and why?? thank you :D
My favourite is the NE5532 - very low noise and very clean, BIG sound.
Some people like the cmos devices, but I haven't gone there.
The TL072 is quieter than a 4558 but I wouldn't say that it sounds any better (or much different).
Personally, I find the JRC/RC/... versions of the 4558 very, very similar.
Yeah, if someone tells me that they couldn't hear the difference between the different 4558 chips, I wouldn't call em a liar. The differences are subtle, and could just be the same variance you hear between two of the same chip. I want to try one of the burr brown chips, but I need a source that accepts paypal.

Cheap and plentiful too. I second that choice.

I like the LF353 and KA358. There's always the RC4558, too. (Texas Instruments)
