Title: Next Step: Modulation FX
Post by: morthek on February 22, 2004, 09:09:55 PM
Hey Friends how you doing? Well, i have already built MXR DIST+ and MXR Dynacomp, both from tonepad and i am very happy with them. Now i want a modulation fx. I was taking a look and hearing some sound samples and found EasyVibe from geofex and Pulsar Tremolo from tonepad, i was thinking about the NeoVibe from GGG but this schem is very big and i am still a beginer  . what´s your opinion? if there is an other good and easy Modulation FX please let me know! Thanks  :D

The EA (Electronics Australia) tremolo is well-liked and not too difficult.

build ansils trem!  Its fun, small, and functional!

That is, only if you don't think you can handle an EA or easyvibe yet...

I suggest Phaser 45 and Electro-Harmonix Pulsar tremolo 8)
Title: PCB or PERF?

I did and EZ VIBE and PHaze 90 and phaze 45 on perf, but I wouldn't recommend it.
For complex builds of this sort, PCB makes it much quicker and there's much less chance for errors/need for debugging.
Not to say it still won't take some work, but Modullation efkts are worth the trouble if you like or think you'll like them.
I use the EZ Vibe the most of all of them, but the SS runs a close second, partly because the EZ is more permanently mounted on my pedalboard, but I'm not about to take it off...

I built an EA tremolo, it was my second or third build and I like it a lot! Now I just have to box it up  It's not difficult to build at all, if you have a little help when something goes wrong. But that's what we're here for, eh? ;)

If you are averse to, or can't, use PCB format for making effects, then take a peek at the stuff at Runoffgroove.  Many of the projects there are presented in stripboard/perfboard format, which is nice for beginners.

The Phozer project is nice and simple and an interesting twist.

Hmm I was considering a phase 45 on perf :? It can't be that difficult, surely.

well the problem is that a part that is rare for you there is almost impossible for me here in Brazil, so i have had some bad experiences trying to put together old stomps( like TB)... i dont use perfboard beacause of a matter of space, i print  in a transparence and when its done i quickly put the board on it so the schem will be on it(very light) and with the pen i mark it, its not the best way but works( i couldnt find the PNP paper here). so size is not a problem, the problem about it is debuging, as i dont know shit about elletronics  .. Thanks for the opinions
