The MPSA14 is shown as an acceptable substitute at Tonepad.  I made one with MPSA13 darlington's and it worked fine.  Every bit as rude-sounding as you'd like.

2N5306 equivalents according to my transistor books;

The MPSA14 is practically the same transistor... it has even better specs.  Probably an improvement on the original.  MPSA13 is also very similar.

2N5305 is also much the same

BC517 and BC617...

just curious if someone has A/B'd these with darlingtons vs. BJT's.  i built this a long time ago and just used generic BJT's but im wondering if anyone has tested to see what the difference is???

thanks for your time.
