Title: Laser printer problem.....help
Post by: Aharon on February 26, 2004, 03:54:52 PM
I have a Brother HL-6,old but worked fine for PCBs.
Sudenly started printing leaving a film of toner on some spots like smearing the page with black.Sufice to say the Pn'P transfers the same shadows and it's a bitch to clean up.
Any ideas how to fix it of toss it?.
Thanks
Aharon
PS:I tried different settings and nothing, also ,it worked fine before with those same settings.

how old is the printer ?  maybe you need a new toner cartridge.

:? Maybe some cleaning needed, but be careful not to overdo anything. Maybe you printed with extra dark setting and it takes some sheets to clean back to normal. One machine I had at work had some kind of "corona wire" or something called like that, a thin wire parallel near the drum. There was a small brush under the lid, in the manual they said to brush carefully the wire if the print is smudged. Dont remember if it helped, the printer was pain in the ass especially in winter, air is very dry indoors at cold weather middle winter here, and the printer was surrounded by machines that caused some ill electric charge to too dry paper.

If the colour cartridge was gently shaken horozontally, the remaining stuff inside settled back so you could print few weeks again

Ok,thanks for the replies.
I cleaned a rubber roller inside and seems to make a difference,it's cleaer now but not totally, either more cleaning before printing or have to buy a new one.
