Title: How to bias the Trimmers of the Boss DM-3 Analog Delay.
Post by: toneless on February 28, 2004, 09:24:55 AM
I tryed to set the trimmers of my Dm-3 and here are my results.

Bias Trimmer : I think that this trimmer doesn't affect the sound
if it's around the half of it's rotation. When you turn it on the two
outer sides no sound can be heard. Around the half of the trimmer's
rotation there is a sound but it's a little muddy. So i suppose the
right position for this trimmer is very close to the half of trimmer's
rotation.

The other two trimmers are "cancell" and "clock". You have to find the
right spots that your delay will have the maximum "delay" sound but
without the "clock" been heard. You can identify the "clock" sound as
a "TZzzz" when you play notes :)
Just keep the repeat rate pot maxed(longest delay) and turn the "clock"
trimmer to max,too...you will hear the Clock sound very intense...!
Now back off the clock trimmer a little and play with the cancell
trim to see if you can make the TZzzz sound dissapear, if not try to
reduce the clock trimmer a little more and try again...

I suppose the same happens to most analog delays out there...

And just for comparison: the DM-3(when maxed) has as enough delay as
my Boss Digital DD-3 when:
DD-3 settings:
Efect level : 3/4
Feedback  : 3/4
Delay Time: Half!
Delay Mode: Longest (from 200ms to 800ms)

Something that i deslike with my a.d pedal is that when i use it with a
dist pedal it makes the sound muddy :( but i think a buffer will help
things a little...

I hope everyone can understand my messy english...
Keep rocking!
