Howdy All,
I would like to build a Headphone Distribution box with about six headphone outputs each with its own volume pot. Are there any schematics for this? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Arn C.
This will be used in a studio environment....
What you could do is split the signal in 6, and then buffer each output independently with an opamp, then use a standard volume pot (you know, a voltage divider) before each output :)
Check headwize.com, lots of applications, and good info about safety and level limiting to avoid excess accidental levels
Depending of headphones, even 553X opamp can output sufficient level. ("piggybacking" these might work, sounds good  ) There are special ic´s around, and lm386 is sometimes suggested, but they have sometimes drawbacks like oscillation and not always easy to layout to avoid these.
single opamp with bipolar supply beefed with two med pwr transistor is simple and reliable solution, and you dont need big cap at output (might cause bass woofiness)
I think Leningrad Cowboys turned to ear monitoring on stage because audience can see their shoes better
If you're taking an output from a CD player that's already strong enough for headphones my method'll work  I didn't realize you might want 6 headphone outputs on you own device, oops
Nasse's idea's good if you're putting this on your own thing :)
There was a headphone project in Electronic Musician magazine a number of years ago. I think that it is sold in kit form through Paia.
If you check out the PAIA site and if it looks like it is something that you are interested in, I can see if I can find the article, or maybe someone else already has it.

PAiA has been making a headphone distribution amp KIT like 4ever.
It's similar 2 their single stereo headph amp only x6!
I'm using a single headphone amp in my moded SIAB tube.
The headph is mucho! loud using 5532s.
Very clean, very clear.
I'm running a regulated +/-12V for my SIAB now.
the schemos 4 the Hph Dist amp are posted at PAiA's web site.
