Title: phase 90- 2N5952 which way?
Post by: ohmen on March 09, 2004, 10:30:32 AM
I have built a phase 90 and like many before me it is not swooshing. I have accurately matched the fets at 1.72v, I have tried zener diodes ranging from 4.3v-5.1v and still no result. According to the build reports you have to turn the diodes the other way around so that is what I did. I looked at the Tonepad site today where the designer of the layout, Francisco Pena, recently had modified it slightly. He had not changed the orientation of the fets however. So my question is before I start desoldering the diodes: if you use the 2N5952 diode, which is the correct orientation?

What I meant was the 2N5952 FET.

Well, check your pinouts, it could be that it has a funny pinout.

You're right, he hasnt changed the pinouts. I've also read the build reports(?). He's revised it twice at least, I think he would have caught it. Did you adjust the trimpot yet? While you're at it, check the usual suspects: battery, off-board wiring conections, PCB for cold solder joints, solder pads touching or other trace shorts, polarity of any diodes or electro caps, etc. You may be pulling your hair out for something simple.

Datasheethttp://www.fairchildsemi.com/ds/2N/2N5952.pdfThe 2N5952 has a strange pinout, the opposite of a J201 or 2N5457.
