Title: DOD 440 EF Question
Post by: morganpedals on March 09, 2004, 12:18:59 PM
So this is the second project I have built. I have a question about the Vactec VTL5C4/2. I have no experience with this part, so my question is, can you install this wrong? The part number is printed on one side, and nothing on the other. What will happen if it is installed upside down? Anything?

You won't kill it by miswiring it. It just won't work ;)

There are essentially two critical things you can do wrong with it:

a) install it with the wrong orientation of the LED portion so that it does not light up at all

b) feed more current into the LED than it can handle so that you burn it out; unfortunately you can't see how bright it gets  (or doesn't)

A less critical thing you might do wrong is to get the LDR leads mixed up.  This is unlikely to result in anything being damaged, but may add to your debugging time.

It appeared to be working last night on my bench. I was concerned about the marking on the top of the VTL5C4/2. There was a marking "LED +" on the top. The + leg didn't seem to go to + in the layout. I was wondering if I should have flipped it over. It did seem to work, and I assumed that if it was wrong, that it wouldn't work properly.  Thanks for the responses.
