Title: overdrive 250/distortion + .....for only 40 bucks.....?
Post by: casey on March 11, 2004, 11:04:46 AM
i would think that you would put 40 bucks in just to make one.

i wonder what the quality of the parts is...i saw that it was originally
80 bucks?

As a rule (for me) I use $35 - $45 for a reference point (really).  It costs around that much to make just about anything that's well constructed and not too involved - Treble Boost, Fuzz Face, Compressor, Overdrive.  I've never built a 250 but I think you may come a little under $40 BUT you would still have the time involved which would bring you way over that.

So I personally don't think that's a bad price.  But if you've never built one the experience of doing it certainly wouldn't be a bad thing .... Two schools of thought I suppose?

yeah, i looked up the mxr dist. + which is basically the same
circuit, and it's 80 bucks.  the only difference is that the dist. +
plus has an l.e.d., where as the dod doesnt.

i wonder if the mxr has true bypass and the dod doesnt?

For 40$..all cased up and working?
Sound-wise I don't know...Depending on the OA and diodes mostly for me.
3 year guarantee...actually I like the DIY guarantee...never had a stage problem. if I did, I would have only to switch to one of the others for an Immediate fix. Nothing beats carrying a backup...
You might beat it by a few buxx only, but you gotta BUILD the thing too, for the 'average' DIYer that's at least a couple days at least IMO, especially if paint is part of the plan...
They got it down to 40 + [how much is shipping must be factored fo course] pretty good...might be wanting a better switch before long, the jacks looked metal?
Not exactly a detailed descript of what it Is and Isn't...true bypass? who made the jacks and switch...I'd buy one and socket the OA and if poss the diodes, except I just built a Dist+, Stupid Box, and Mockman, and Tube Reamer...each for about less than 20$...haff the parts are salvages...TI sent the chips!!!
