Hey MArtyB,good job.I'm in your same team,I just started making PCBs.
If you allow me I will give you a couple of tips.MAybe RG will chime in to correct me or add something.
I had never made one before and one day they just started to flow out,I'm afraid if i stop I will loose the gift(lol)

I would put all pots on top, input left and output right.....that layout works even for rather busy boards if you look at Francisco's layouts for example

I used ExpressPCB,it's dead easy to use,has a library and has a schem editor too.
After you have them in Express you can redraw them in other program if you want, the thing with Express is that the learning curve is not steep at all,in 5 min you are up and running.
You can probably route more traces through components, untill I got that through my head I could not make a PCB if my life depended on it.
Don't be afraid of of using a couple of jumpers, just mark them as "zero ohm resistors" and you are fine (lol),no that's a joke, but use them as long as the board is not all jumpers I think it's fine. The other day I cannibalized a VCR and the board had 40% jumpers on it....if pros do it whay not us?

Nice job Marty! 8)

One thing to keep in mind as you design boards.... make the ground traces as large as you can get away with. You'll get lower noise in the end.

I agree with Aharon.... jumpers are not an issue at all when working with single layer boards. If I end up needing them and don't want them, I'll do another layout to see if I can eliminate them. Sometimes it just can't be helped.

Take care,
