Title: Tonepad Tubescreamer / Hollis Easyvibe
Post by: jpb_guitars on March 14, 2004, 02:27:31 PM
Hello,
built the TS 808 from Tonepad yesterday.
Sounds great :D , a little more transparent than my TS 9 from Ibanez.
But the volume is not as high as the Ibanez.
Any ideas?
would be great, if somebody could help me.

And I've got problems building the easyvibe. Everything works perfect,
the bias led's and the opto's are flashing, but in the chorus mode there is no sound (nothing!) and in the vibrato mode a clean tone with a little less bass than in bypass mode. Please help me, cause I don't no what to do!

Thanks!
Jan

When I built my easyvibe I got cute and tried to add a 9v power supply jack so I could use a wall wart with it.   The external supply had alittle too much current for the effect (500mA).   I got the same sound result you're describing.  When I just use a 9V battery  it works great.  I ended up keeping the jack and putting a 10meg (I think) resistor in series - this now works also.  Hope this gives you an idea.

Don't know about the Tubescreamer.

So you getting no vibe effect in the vibrato mode ? Are you sure the LEDs for the optos are flashing ? Try manually moving the sweep by disconnecting the opto's LEDs then connecting them to a pot using the pot to change the brightness. Don't forget limiting resistors for the LEDs. If they are sweeping correctly then there is something funny going on with the phaser section.

If you still get no sweep but the LFO/LEDs are working try checking both the vibe signal and the clean signal that is mixed with the chours signal. Report back here with your findings.

changing out the diodes can give you some more boost... i've put a switch on mine to take the diodes out and it's a really loud clean boost without it, but you can still get some gain out of the ic...
