Title: Booster Question
Post by: PeopleHateMe7666 on March 14, 2004, 10:50:21 PM
Hey I have the emg afterburner its a push pull pot, u pull and get 0-20dB boost selected by the pot, now when i do it clean it works but on the distortion channles it just adds overdrive no volume, im guessing this is because the dist channles have active control and the clean is passive, and the actives set a limit instead of just turning the connection to ground more or less... what can i do to make my booster.. useable? im thinking about trying to make a pedal version of it...

clip one DMM lead to ground.
Take voltage reading from all the actives pins, mark them and post them here
 /build something similar
Title: Booster Question

Your distortion channel is distorted by running out of headroom so if you heat up the signal going to it, you'll just get more distortion and no more volume because the headroom is the same either way and you've already run out of it. There isn't anything you can do about that... it's just how the amp works.

Your main option will be to use an external distorter and run through the clean channel.

Oh... if your amp has an effects loop, you might be able to get more volume by boosting the signal there.

Good luck,
