Aren't they the same Transistor except one is a higher gain or something? What I mean is that in the factory are there two seperate lines for making BC108C and BC108 or are they all made on the same line just measured later and one is stamped with a C making it a BC108C instead of a BC108.
Your right, they're the same transistors with different gain. Some of the 'older' BCxxxx types are available as A, B or C.
Since they don't test individual transistors, I suppose they must do a run and check whether, as a group, they measure up to BC108C specs.

Actually these trannies vary incredibly...I was told that every week they put a different suffix on the cases, all the way from A to Z, and it was just random because they had so many and couldn't keep track...
also apparently the early TFK's were made out of "duetronium" a very rare metal synthesized by some alien race that actually has traces of oregano in it and was left behind, in what we now know as Methuen, Mass...later versions were handcrafted in Croatia...
I've tried every one of them I think I like the BC108Z and X but I have several thousand left to test out before I post my real opinion...I actually had to hire out people to help me...I hope to actually get around to building some pedals with them in about 2006 if all goes according to schedule...

By "duetronium" you mean Duteronium (Du), right? Alloyed with Molybdenum (Mb) it has "very special" properties. In my experience, nothing gets the old-timers raving about tone like those DuMb transistors.
Forget Si, forget Ge... nothing sparks a good debate like a quick mention of the auditory superiority of good ol' Unobtanium.
BTW, I can’t find Duteronium anywhere on the net... there is some mention of Duetronium, but Google prefers to search for Deuterium!

Bake Off?? Hey I'm Italian and I lived (briefly) in Seattle. There used to be a great Italian deli at the market downtown (Pike St.?) - where the fish throwers are. They had really good focaccia bread and a great selection of cheese. And Beppo's (sp?) - wow now that was a great place. Kinda like Grandma's house except I had to pay.
