Hey all,
I just came by an Ibanez fl-9 flanger. It is a pretty good sounding pedal, but there are definatly improvements that could be made. Does anyone have a schematic or experience with modifying these?
Thanks in advance.
What improvements would you like to make?
I haven't played mine in years, but I recall it sounded cool, but noisy.
Roger
Hey, thanks for the reply.
Mine is rather quiet in my opinion, so that isn't an issue. I find that the flanging is a little thing, and a little erratic. Sometimes you can hear it a lot and other times it is almost inaudible. I would like to thicken it up a good deal. I figure this has to do with increasing the gain and bass response. I imagine an easy way to increase the bass is by raising the input cap.
Also, I think the bypass is terrible. Is there anything I could do about that?
Thanks.
I'm gonna fire this baby back up to the front page.
Strange that it's quiet, this pedal is famous (like it's other 9 series brothers in modulation) for a gain boost when engaged. Mine is no exception. Bypass is also considered pretty good on these pedals.
It is a very chorusy flanger though, much more subtle than most unless you dime everything.
Agreed about the chorusy part. I guess the other stuff is just a matter of opinion. The noise doesn't bother me, but the bypass does. I set to work trying to get some ic sockets in there so I could use some opa2134s, but everythings so crammed in there.
Anyone experiment with the trimpots at all?
Just found out that the input impedance is only 500K, which is a bit low. Upgrading the input transistor might do the trick.
