Hi. This is about some AC127 transistors that I have (they're the NPN complement to the AC128). A few times I have wondered why everybody does flips and twists over germanium fuzz pedals. After all, I'd built a fuzzface and an easyface with my AC127s, and they were nothing special at all.
Last night I decided to test the AC127s with an RG Keen tester. They leaked badly and had excessive hFE. Specifically, the leakage was 600 to 1000uA and the "true" gain was 240 to 320.
Now I know why my Ge fuzzface and easyface were fairly ordinary.
But now I'm trying to think of a use for these trannies. Any ideas where hi gain is an advantage, and hi leakage isn't a disadvantage, for a Ge tranny?
the internal Ge diodes might sound good signal to ground in a Dist+, will damp the output down tho.
