Title: Alpha DPDT switches
Post by: Jered on March 27, 2004, 07:46:38 AM
Jeremy and Kevin from Lit brought by a box of pedals that have stopped workimg within the last year or so, ten pedals total. Four of them had switch problems two MXR Bass DI+ and two Whirlwind Selectors. All of the switches that failed were the small Alpha DPDT's.
Didn't Whirlwind use to use Carlings?
Anyway, just wanted to give a heads up on the Alpha switches.

Hmm. I thought these things had only been available for about 2 months.

Or is it just that they've been available through Mouser and Small Bear for that long?

I have know idea how long they've been used in industry but all the switches broke the same. Tje metal housing separated from the plastic body it is pressed/clamped to.
A closer look at the broken switches and its very obvious these are not made to withstand any abuse. I guess you get what you pay for.
I'm astonished that MXR would put these in  any MXR box.
