Making a bottom plate would be no big thing with some plate tin and some tin snips.

I'm sure someone has thought of this before.  So I am probably bringing up a moo point.

And no they aint to big!  Center caps are what?!  Maybe 4-6 inches across.  And I have owned three VW beetles in the past and those center covers aren't that big.  Prices are good!  And hell of alot prettier than Hammond enclosures!

Making the bottom would be the trickiest, well how to fasten it...I've done ones that just kinda clip in.
I like the chrome look of the VW and Vette caps...would make great looking effects house I think.
Not moot to me...[almost] all my stuff's in RACO's

Actually I thought the bottom would be easy.  Just take a compass make a circle the size 1/2" over of the case.  Tin snip her out, then make another circle inside the circle bringing it in  1/2"  then just go around the edge snipping little tabs into the edge, then bend all the little tabs up!  Then take a small drill pick about 3 to 4 spots and drill little holes and input screws to hold her in place.  What do ya think?

VW hubcaps are more like 9" might make for a cool arty amp chasis for a firefly or similer, but a little large for a pedal. I have a porsche center cap laying around here somewhere I might try and squeeze something small into it.
Also those VW caps are reproductions, if you can find some original vintage ones, the metal will be a lot thicker and more sturdy, the chrome will be nicer, and the logo will be sharper looking.
Good place to look is at VW shows, most of them have swap meets with tons of hubcaps for sale cheap.

Couldn't you just cut out a round piece of wood panelling or something for the bottom and put some copper shielding tape on the inside?  How does Keeley do his wooden pedals as far as shielding?

Thumpo!  That would depend on which vintage type center cap your talking about for bugs.  There are two sizes.  The one I'm talking abut came on like early 40s jobs and wasn't any 9" across.  I think your talking about the larger ones that cover more than just the hub and lug nuts.  There are two dog dish caps.  I am talking about the smaller ones.  I ain't gonna look it up I had vintage bugs in the past and I ain't into thtat and threw all my bug mags and info out in the trash in 1992.  But I've had anough caps in my hand from bugs to know they aint 9".  I think the larger ones may be but the ones on my old bugs were about the size of a Fuzzface maybe even slightly smaller.  Were talking about bugs aren't we?
