Title: heavy metal tone rules!!!
Post by: Vincent Volta on March 29, 2004, 06:21:35 PM
Hi evryone,
I was thinking of building a heavy metal pedal, just for fun cause I dont play like that for serious- the idea is getting something like the James Hetfield tone. Though I KNOW what kind of gear he uses in detail, what I want is just to ape his tone for home uses and friend jams... Does anybody know of such a beast? Anything you can recommend? I ll try your suggestions, thanx in advance.

Dude!  I mean I know thisis a DIY forum but shit man, if all you want is a metal tone vibe, you really cannot go wrong with a BOSS Metal Zone.  Alot cheaper than anything you can build.  I got mine used, a Japan made one (this is important to some), for $30 at a pawn shop.  A Metal Zone and a large tube amp and your there. I'd go for something 50watts or more to push a little air. :)

Almost any dirt box will do it if you use it with a graphic e.q.

Try the Obsidian, designed by Joe Davisson, or the Whisker Biscuit, designed by Runoffgroove.
