I have an old practice amp... the first amp i got. Its a Kustom KGA 10a

Its basically a little 10 watt practice amp.

I used to hate the distortion/overdrive on it... it just sounded too muddy for my taste... then i got a DS-1 and a slightly larger amp. so i didn't use it anymore at all...

Lately when i've been messing with all this DIY pedal stuff i pulled it out to test something... and realized that i REALLY like the distortion on this midrange... it gets too noisy when turned up... but its a real smooth, and with an eq i bet could be real creamy...

the question i have is, does anyone know what distortion is in this? Can i make a pedal? and What, if any decent mods could i make?

I did a google search for the schematic... but i didn't find anything

i even checked the kustom website... and nada

Also, there is an IC in i... ic2 on the pcb... its 1da2030a... i can't find anything on any permutation of 1 d a 2 0 3 0 a... anyone know what this is?

I don't know about a schematic, but the chip you mentioned must be a TDA2030. :D Google has >1600 hits for that one.

If YOU were Kustom and were going to crank out a 10W practice amp with precious little profit margin, would you sink money into R&D of a totally new and unique distortion circuit or would you just stick a couple of silicon diodes in the feedback loop of an op-amp or after one and say "Screw it. We're done."?

That's MEAN!

OF COURSE I would sink all my profits into making a new and unique circuit that I saw elsewhere :twisted:
