Title: MetalZone Pots
Post by: New Frontier on March 30, 2004, 11:50:56 PM
Anyone knows where to find pots like the ones used on the Boss MZ. The ones wich have two independent controls ?
The site below has many pots, but I don't know how to describe it.. Tkx

More to the point, where do you get the knobs for those pots?

But doesn't missing knobs make it look like more of a "metal" pedal?

I remember picking up a few dual concentric pots. I need to look around - I thought they might be very valuable for tone controls, but I never found the knobs.

apparently some music stores carry them - but they're rather big, and if youre unlucky they want knurled shafts. I've found a nice metal pair (meant for modding a bass for more EQ possibilities without harming anything) that accepted 6 and 4 mm shafts with a tension screw at Musik Produktiv, but I can't find it now...

*edit*:
for the european customers at least:

as for knobs, you can get jazz bass replacements (pricey, though), or pull some from old car radios or thrift store hi-fi components.

I was looking for the same thing last fall. Do a search on the topic:

Looking for some (apparently) hard-to-find pots...

Smallbearelectronics (Steve?) replied with the following:

"I talked today with a guy a Roland who is willing to let me order spare parts there. So drop me a private message with model of the pedal, serial number and description of the part, and I'll try to get it for you."

So I bet if you email him requesting the pots & knobs, he can probably get them. Good luck.

I *might* be able to find dual concentric 25K pots.

These can be used for tone controls pretty easily.

The question is, does anyone want them based on these limits:

The are PC mount pots (i.e. made to go into a board) but you can solder on them.

They do not come with washer/nuts. ( I could probably find the matching size).

If so, I will try and see if they are still available.

well if you needed a 500k concentric pot you might wanna check WD Music Products (http://wdmusicproducts.co.uk/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=wduk&Product_Code=CP500BK&Category_Code=PTS) as thats pretty much what you need :| im not sure if its the right value... but it was worth a shot

but damn thats expensive... £25  :o but it does have a cool black knob
