Title: my SD-1 sounds dark
Post by: nooneknows on April 01, 2004, 01:04:39 PM
Hi,
weel, I have a boss SD-1 that I haven't liked so much.
Then I applied all the Keeley's mods I've found over here  but this stuff still remain dark sounding,  muffled down.  I snipped off the cap across diodes too, trying to get it clearer, no way.
Any suggestions?
thanx,

Is the tone control functioning properly?  Is there a possibility that you are accidentally shunting high end to ground via a solder bridge?

Mark,
No, the tone seems ok, no soder drops or short circuit.
I mean, it's not THAT dark... maybe the pedal has to sound this way :-) it's just that I don't remember my old ts-9 (sold long time ago) sounding so hazed, and the circuits are really similiar now.
I was thinking about putting my hands on tone comp values, but, first, I have to re-open my electronic handbook on  filters... :-D
thanks
M.

Recheck your cap values. Sometimes you might have a .1 instead of .01 etc...

Switching to a higher quality opamp can help some, I was pleased with a Burr-Brown OPA2134 in mine. It added a bit of highs I think. If it's darker than the TS you had though, it's probably not right somehow. I also had the Analogman mod done to it before I started doing DIY.
