i've noticed quite alot of similarities between the two circuits... has anybody built both and noticed a difference? would it be worth making both?

Go for Jumbo! I like it's sound better. Softer and more dynamic. Also you can tamper with the tone control. HP&LP filters go a long way there. Also you may want to change the input stage to a J-Fet instead of BJT. Will give you a clearer tone. Anyway, with transistors, sky is the limit.
Good luck.

I built both. My heart is always with the Big Muff, but the Jumbo is very cool.
