Title: How do I speed up a Boss CE-2
Post by: seekup1982 on April 07, 2004, 07:16:54 PM
I don't want to mess with any of it's sounds, I just want it to go a little faster, more like a leslie.  I know the Visual Sound H20 Chorus does this and it's circuit is similar to a CE-2, but how can I change my existing one to go faster?  Thanks in advance,

Ben James

i suggest you look at the Zombie Chorus schematic for ideas, it's LFO is very similar to that of  a CE-2, and it goes nice and fast ...

I'm not familiar with that pedal, but open it up and look for trimpots to adjust. If you're lucky, that will save you from swapping out resistors or looking at a schematic.

Make sure you mark the original positions on the trimpots before you turn them, just in case you want to go back to stock!

I don't have the schematic, but if I recall the LFO is just a bog-standard type.  I wouldn't mess with trimpots though, I'd be surprised if they had anything to do with the LFO.

Can you link to the schematic please? (and this goes out to everyone in general when they have problems).  It's easier to advise someone if everyone is reading from the same hymn-sheet.  I'm not saying that I'll be able to answer, but you'll get more/quicker responses if you do this.   :)

Apologies if no schematic exists...

Try lowering the value of C19.

One of the pro modder guys uses a trim pot somewhere, but I didn't bother tracing it.

You'll probably get a subtler change by playing around with R32 (1M).  Make it smaller for faster speeds.

I'd suggest sticking another .1uf cap in series with C19.  That will raise the range of sweep frequencies by a factor of 2 (e.g., from .5 - 6hz to 1 - 12hz).  If you use a minitoggle to shunt one of those caps, you drop the range again.  The two ranges will overlap, but each will allow different degrees of precision in dialing in certain speeds.  Did it to my MXR Flanger and it worked like a charm.

Note that this is NOT the same thing as the "mode" switch on the Zombie Chorus.  There, the switch doubles/halves the *clock speed* not the LFO rate.
