Title: OT: PayPal Question
Post by: phillip on April 09, 2004, 11:28:09 PM
When I registed my credit card in my PayPal account, they asked my to do something called an "Expanded Use Number" where they would charge $1.95 to my card, and on the statement a 4-digit number would appear.  I would then take my number and type that into my account and I would be qualified for this "Expanded Use."  They would then credit my account the $1.95 that was charged to my card.

My question is...what the heck is it??  I scoured their help files, and the only thing I could find is a vague statement that is was for "non-US users."  Do I need to complete this "Expanded Use Number" thing since I'm a US user?

I think they want to be sure that the billing is going to you. Someone using a phony card would never get the statement, so be unable to cough up the "secret" number.

I had to do something similar to confirm my bank account. It's been a while, but there was some silly couple bucks that was either added or subtracted to my account. Then I had to tell them how much...

Some people hate paypal. I have found it an easy way of dealing with internet transactions.

Strange I never had to do any of that.  But I registered with paypal almost when they came on the ebay scene.  This may be a newer thang with them.  They just bug the shit out of me to become "verified".  What ever the hell that means.  I do just fine without being "verified".   I love them though!  Much much easier buying stuff.  I haven't had one bad transaction with them.  :D

I remember they charged me $1.00 to verify my card.

That's BEFORE Ebay took it over.

Yeah, we had to do something like that... but they didnt take the money they just put it on the next bank statement... maybe when they take the money they invest it overnight and make millions off your $1.95
