Title: Help please! I've screwed my MutronIII!
Post by: Jebus0000 on April 19, 2004, 05:46:21 PM
Well not entirely.

I was sick of using the massive power supply so I decided I would hook up the battery clips to my pedal power 2.  I tested it and it worked so I made the desicion to permeantly mod it by installing 2 power jacks on the back. So I drilled the holes and hooked it up.  Of course it didn't work.  After a long time a trouble shooting I found the metal power jacks worked when they were not touching the mutron casing but stopped working as soon as they touched the metal box.  This is probably very obvious to all you experienced builders but I'm a beginner I hadn't learn that lesson yet.  so my question is...Are there any small power jacks that are insulated?  I've seen the plastc ones at small bear and the seem quite a bit larger then the metal ones.  Are there any plastic ones the same size as the metal ones?

The newer Radio-Crap...I mean Radio Shack/Tandy 5.5mm O.D.x2.1mm I.D. coaxial DC power jack with switch are metal bushing but insulated.  I thought that Mutron III's needed a bi-polar (+&- voltage) power supply?  If it does, then these jacks won't work.  But, I don't know much about Mutron stuff, other than I'd love to own a Bi-phase.

It can run off 2 batteries so I'm using 2 jacks instead.  It works, I tried it but it doesn't work with the jack touching the casing.

I'll have to check radio shack although radio shack is different in Canada I think...very few parts for sale anymore.

So, your running one jack ground/positive and the other ground/negative?  Well, Radio Shack has mainly become a place to buy cell phones and crappy RC cars.  Even with the few parts they do have, none of the stores I go to have employees that have a clue as to what that "stuff" is.  Mainly, it seems I get hassled and then always with the sales pitches to buy a cell phone or a satallite dish....Gaaaaaaaah!!!
