Title: PCB handling
Post by: brrt on April 20, 2004, 12:23:19 PM
What kind of chemicals is best to be used when finishing a soldered PCB? pure alcohol or flux-off to remove rosin flux? What brand? And is there a chemical to protect the copper&alloy from corrosion?

TIA&greetings, Brrt

I tin my pcb's with "Tinnit" after etching.  You can get it  from 'All Electronics Co.'.  Not sure what folks are using to otherwise seal/protect.

I buff the board to a shine with fine steel wool and give a light rub of liquid flux on the traces/pads, using a Q-tip.  Then I tin it using thin gauge solder.  The stuff melts easy and flows like water.  I've used Tinnit a couple of times, and it works, but found it dulled over time and was difficult to solder onto unless buffed again.  Coulda been climatic/storage conditions.

I use a coat of clear lacquer to protect the copper...works great.
