Quotethey're 6021W's, designed for use in military applications like heat-seeking missiles and stuff that needs to withstand heavy g-forces and operate under stress with long life. i like the sound of them... i'm surprised nobody has ever experimented with them before. they have a very criss-crossy sounding harmonic sizzle when severely overdriven... a kind of wild mayhem that isn't terribly musical but sounds very exciting, very cymbal-crash-like to me.

This is from a thread from the old forum. The Nano Head doesn't run off of batteries, it runs off of a wall-wart.

The NanoHead uses 6021s which in spite of their size require the same heater current that 12A_7 tubes do. The 6021 is actually very similar in specs to the 12AV7. (between 1/2 the Mu of a 12AT7 and twice the Mu of a 12AU7)

They have a coolness factor because of the size, but I like the larger tubes better for variety. They do have awesome reliability and ability to withstand harsh environments. That line of tubes was originally made for proximity fuses in artillery shells and in missiles. 30,000Gs? They can take it. http://www.diystompboxes.com/sboxforum/viewtopic.php?t=18870&highlight=tiny+tubes (scroll down about 25% of the way)

Take care,

the exact units i use are Philips JAN 6021W units from the mid-to-late 80's, just before Philips stopped manufacturing them altogether.
