I would like to get more drive in my Boss OD-3 overdrive. I think changes in R52, R38, R51 and/or C33 would do the job (http://diystompboxes.com/pedals/schems/BossOD-3.gif). I suppose lowering R51 and C33 will give me more gain and modifying R38 (or R52?) shifts the drivelevel (e.g. from 3 to 13 instead of 0 to 10). Am I correct? Or is there a better way of getting my overdrive sound better?
Second question: Will changing coupling capacitors to metalfilms improve my tone? Which capacitors should be changed and which are not to be changed?
TIA!

The diodes at the Jfet gates 9 and 4 connect/not connect to....they sure look like they're floating there to me.
Gates 9 and 14 will be departing in 15 minutes, gates 9 and 14.

They left off the flipper/flopper switcher.

I'll have to get out my terminology reference [lol].
Is a flipper/flopper a bypass method?
So to build one with true bypass, these diodes at gates won't be needed?
Comparison schematic without Boss type switching so I could better see what's needed and not needed for true bypassing the circuit?
I look at DS-1, and compared to many similar sounding circuits, the DS-1 [Fuzzcentral] has whole nuther sections under the clipping and amp stages. Rather complicated looking...[probly just buying one would be the best way to get all that], and makes me wonder how necessary all that is or what benefits it gives.
Maybe they just put all that on there to keep us DIYer's from getting the build urge. I know I looked and thought...now why would I want to go to all that trouble, when I can get cool distortion with less than half that many parts?...still I get the feeling there's something in there I don't understand, and that bothers me.
I build the DS-1, and the SD-1 from GM arts, but these schematics are about a third the size of the ones at Fuzz Central HMmmmmmmm...mmmayby I'm missing something here...
I haven't noticed the floating diodes... But they are for switching? Hmmm... every day is another day to learn :P
But back to the orig. question: will changing R52, R38, R51 and/or C33 produce the same kind of result as with a TS-9 tubescreamer?
Brrt.

Here's a thread from the archives with a comment from the artist.
