Title: Discharging the caps before modding,necessary for 9v pedals?

actually,i have little technical question,does it necessary to discharge those little caps before doing soldering ? most of the time i do soldering right after i unplug the pedal ,i do unplug the battery ofcoz before doing any mods. :?:

Strictly speaking, yes, you should let them discharge.

Practically speaking, no one ever does. The energy stored is almost always so small that no damage is done to either the circuit or the component. Maybe once in a thousand times you'll hurt the cap. Usually, you get away with it.

That applies for 9V battery powered stuff only.
