You should read 9v somewhere on one of it's pins. Gnd is probably pin 4.
Might tell you a little bit about it, or what Might work in that spot.

According to : http://www.fibra-brandt.com/, their equivalent is the MC1458, in other words; it's a standard dual OA.

The pinout on the DIP version is the same as the 4558.  The pinout on the SIP version (which tends to be why Boss uses them...smaller space) is also the same but obviously with 8 pins in a row, pin 5 is located differently than on a DIP.

The datasheet indicates it is a "general purpose" dual op-amp but is low noise, low distortion, moderate slew rate (3v/us) and can run off supplies as low as 4v+.  So, a 4558 *will* replace it but isn't quite as high quality a device.  That may be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on the application.

Those sound bad for passing basic audio, IMO. I've tried changing them for 5532Ss in some Boss efx., and that's what I found. (Kind of gritty, harsh.) Might be just fine or good in some situations like Mark has mentioned, though.
