Title: mxr blue box oddness
Post by: jmejia on April 30, 2004, 06:44:40 PM
is exactly what i want. the one i've played with is totally strange and unpredictable, i'd love to build one...but i want to make sure it will be just as crazy. no idea when the one i've been playing was built, but i guess i'm looking for the schematic with the worst tracking?
the tonepad plans look great...but i want to be sure i won't be let down in having built a pedal that is "improved" somehow from the box i've played.
any suggestions towards those ends would be awesome.

hey,
i built a blue box from the tonepad layout bout a month ago. i used all the extra mods for the bias and pulldown resistor and such (the parts in yellow/orange), and it's still pretty awful :)

i've never played a storebought one, but the tracking on the one i built is pretty bad until you start using the neck pickup and rolled off tone, and even then only when you're above the twelfth fret.

it's a pretty cool box - lots of mario sounds to be had - but i cant say i use it much.

good luck on the build

I used to have one.. and my review is up at HC.

"...if you are into making an ungodly menagerie of a racket to raise Cthulhu from his watery slumber, this is the pedal for you."

any idea if those mods improve the tracking...thus reducing said 'mario' sounds? if so i'll leave em out!
