Title: 4049BP = Source of my woes?
Post by: bobbletrox on May 01, 2004, 10:01:21 AM
I just perfed a CA Tube Sound Fuzz but I'm only get a heavily gated fuzz tone when I hit the strings really hard -and this is with humbuckers.  Anyhoo, I was just wondering if the source of the problem could be the 4049.  From what I understand, the UB suffix is for unbuffered, but the only chip I could rustle up today was a TC4049BP -so it's kinda dubious.  I thought the "B" was for buffered in 4050s!

Failing that I might have to post the perf layout I came up with because this thing is really bugging me!

oh the joys of hex

Yes, your problem (OK, one of your possible problems) is the "B". The B series is buffered, meaning there are internal buffers to get higher gain.

You want 4049UB ("un-buffered").
